Kissing
on Stage
Hello everyone:
Christie from Texas wrote me asking for tips on how to kiss on stage,
and our acting coaches responded with wonderful advice. Janus noted
the importance of having every element choreographed and rehearsed,
as well as of setting ground rules with the director. She also recommended
"sitting down and openly discussing the kiss [with her partner]
in the rehearsal space - no coffee date, no apartment."
Nicole Stewart suggested Christie "find one thing that is attractive
about your acting partner and focus on that" and Yecid Benavides
observed: "Remember, your kiss is meant for the audience to see
it and relate to the romance - don't turn away." Reed Kalisher
reminded her that since much of the kiss won't be seen past the first
few rows, she should work to show, through her "eyes and actions"
the emotion her character is feeling, and which led to the kiss.
Their complete responses provide many more tips and tricks for executing
the perfect kiss, as well as the worst KISSING MISTAKE an actor
can make. To discover what it is (I was surprised!), and much more,
check out Becoming
a Successful Actor.
Best of
luck in all your theatrical pursuits,
