"Quite extraordinarily brilliant...scintillatingly written...the energy level rarely falls below that of a Rangers Celtic Derby...enlightening analysis...highly amusing...a cathartic, life-affirming statement about the nature of human identity..."

What's On in London

"Syndrome is...about a man who is 'perfectly normal' –except for his Tourette Syndrome, Obsessive-Compulsive Behavior, Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder, and Bipolar personality traits. Through the course of an evening at home, we are given a glimpse into his cognition, emotions, fascinations, memories, tics, and obsessions, all brought to the surface by a simple expectation–meeting his parents for dinner. Berg himself has Tourette Syndrome, and this play is based partly on his own experiences." - Martin Denton, NYTheatre.com

London Reviews!
"One of the single most astonishing performances in London right now . . . it's utterly compelling."
- BBC, THREE TO SEE

"Syndrome is a quite extraordinarily brilliant piece of theatre."
- FIVE STARS - What's On London

"Curiously engaging . . . a devious sense of humor . . . performance and reality merge in compelling ways."
- Time Out London

"But American talent isn't only enriching the high profile companies."
- Backstage

"Neither self-pitying nor sentimentally glamourising, Syndrome no more needs a pre-interest in Tourette's than, say, King Lear does in divvying up the family property."
- ReviewsGate.com

"Berg turns compulsive behaviour into compulsive viewing."
- The London Jewish Chronicle

"Not only a remarkable technical performance but one that becomes in itself an evocative theatrical metaphor."
- The Stage

New York Reviews!
"See Syndrome. It's insightful, it's moving, it's smart, it's profound, and it's off-the-wall hilarious. It has been a long time since I've seen something in the theatre that excited me like Syndrome did."
- nytheatre.com

"Berg onstage, alone, is worth the price of admission. Theater at it's best."
- talkingbroadway.com

"Bromley's elegant script. . . Berg, an actor of uncompromising talent."
- The Village Voice

"Berg, an open, charismatic actor and comedian. Complemented by Bromley's rich, poetic and often humorous script, [Berg] adeptly commands the spotlight."
- digitalcity.com

"Full of lyrisicm and humor . . . a very fine performance."
- New York Times

Syndrome is a play about a man sitting in his room contemplating the reality of meeting his parents for dinner.

This seemingly mundane fact truly terrifies him. We quickly discover that there are reasons for his terror, stemming from his past relations with his parents, his particular phobias toward what might happen during dinner, and his "spectrum of psychological and neurological disorders." These span from Tourette’s Syndrome, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, to Bipolar Disorder, Paranoia, and Delusion.

However, this man is perfectly "normal."

As the evening progresses, we are given a glimpse into his cognition, emotions, fascinations, memories, tics, and obsessions, all brought to the surface by a simple expectation - meeting his parents for dinner. In short, Syndrome offers a complex, dramatic, humorous and profoundly intimate portrayal of the post-modern predicament – self as Spectrum.
